blessed2bless
Uganda has one of the youngest populations in the world. Around half of its more than 50 million inhabitants are under the age of 15. At the same time, around 42 per cent of the population lives in poverty, which severely limits access to good-quality education, particularly in rural regions.
Although attending public schools is free of charge, they often lack infrastructure, teaching materials and sufficiently qualified staff. Private schools offer much better learning conditions but are unaffordable for many families. School fees amount to around CHF 95 per child per year, including two meals a day, which is beyond the means of many households.
Teachers are also affected by precarious incomes. Monthly salaries of between CHF 40 and 80 lead to high staff turnover and jeopardise the continuity of teaching.
Since 2025, Fondation Aline has supported the blessed2bless project and St. Tereza School in Kakoge, a rural region of Uganda. The aim of this support is to create stable educational structures and give children from disadvantaged backgrounds access to reliable schooling.
About the Project
Blessed2bless is an independent education initiative that grew out of a personal commitment to education and local development in Uganda. The project is implemented in close cooperation with local partners and is adapted to local conditions.
At its heart is St. Tereza School in the rural region of Kakoge. It provides pre-primary and primary education for children from disadvantaged families, with the aim of giving them a stable, high-quality education. Since it opened in 2020, the school has developed step by step. A new grade has been added each year, with the aim of offering complete primary education up to Primary 7. Around 140 children currently attend the school.
In recent years, important structural improvements have been made together with committed partners. These include the construction of new school buildings, the erection of a security fence, connection to water and electricity supplies, modern sanitary facilities, the introduction of a school uniform and the official registration of the pre-primary section.
Since 2025, Fondation Aline has been specifically involved in the blessed2bless project. In a first phase, the Foundation financed the construction of an additional school building, the set-up of a school canteen and the purchase of four sewing machines for the vocational training of girls and women. These measures have lastingly improved the school’s learning conditions and care services.
Since September 2025, Fondation Aline has also been funding the salaries of the school staff. This secures regular school operations, ensures continuity of teaching and lastingly stabilises the teachers’ working conditions.
A vision for the future
From February 2026, the new infrastructure will make it possible to admit more children and further expand the educational offering. At the same time, the school is to be gradually developed, outside regular teaching hours, into a training centre for women from the region.
Through practical training, women have the opportunity to acquire economic skills and strengthen their independence. The project thus has an impact beyond the school and contributes in the long term to the social and economic development of the community.
