Small bakery in Senegal.

Small bakery in Senegal

Self-reliance and autonomy.
Financial independence through the promotion of entrepreneurship.

The foundation's namesake was a close friend of various Senegalese over many years and has built up a strong bond with the people and the country. With great respect and appreciation, we would like to build on this special relationship and therefore support various projects in the Senegal area.

The project "Small Bakery in Senegal", which is part of the social sector, started in January 2022. The aim of the project is to give a local family the opportunity to achieve financial independence through their own business. The entire value chain from bread production to the sale of baked goods is to be learned and implemented by the family itself. In addition, fresh and healthy food in the form of baked goods is to be made accessible to the population and visitors to the Touba region. The location of the bakery has a large number of visitors because Mbacké is an important trading hub for the surrounding rural areas and has a rich tradition in the production of textiles, leather goods and other handicraft products.

For this project, the Fondation Aline organised three dough kneading machines, a bakery and confectionery oven including all ingredients for bread production and shipped them from Switzerland to Senegal. The installation and commissioning of the equipment as well as the training instruction will be carried out by a specialist on site to ensure the proper operation of the machines and to introduce the people to the technical and manual conditions. It is also planned to send a Swiss cooperation partner from the bakery industry to Mbacké to teach the manual part as part of an apprenticeship.

The unstable power supply prevented the daily use of the machines and thus endangered the family's ongoing operations and source of income. The Fondation Aline reacted quickly to these difficulties and organised the transport of a compact emergency generator and a power socket box from Switzerland to Mbacké. In another sub-project, various items of furniture such as beds, mattresses and tables as well as 200 kg of clothing for children and adults were also provided to the population of Touba in order to improve their health situation in the long term. The entire "Senegal" project was supported by the Fondation Aline in 2022 with an amount of CHF 54'157.00.

We are convinced that a person who feels comfortable develops initiative and creativity and that is exactly why we wanted to promote this feeling. A local trusted person on site took care that the distribution of the goods, which came from a donation campaign of the Fondation Aline, was fair and according to the needs.

The transport of the small bakery

The great journey of the small bakery began at the end of November 2022 in the Swiss community of Ennetbürgen. Our foundation councillor, together with the energetic helpers from the transport company, ensured that the container with the furnishings could be loaded and sent on its way to Antwerp at the beginning of December 2022.

In mid-December 2022, the container moved on from Antwerp to Tangier, where the furniture then continued the last part of its journey to Dakar. In the meantime, customs clearance was completed and the container was transported to the centre of Senegal in Touba.

After a total delivery time of around one month and a distance of over 6,000 kilometres, the container was transported from the Swiss community of Ennetbürgen to the Port de Dakar in Senegal. Finally, the contents were distributed to the needy families in Touba. In the near future, the installation of the small bakery will also be started.

Thank you letter

We have received a thank you letter from our contact person in Senegal, who is taking care of both the distribution of the donations to the needy families in Touba and the installation of the small bakery.
We are delighted that with our donation we were able to make a positive contribution to the sustainable improvement of the health situation and give the local people the opportunity to generate their own income in the future. We are proud that we were able to positively influence the lives of many local people with our donation, because this is exactly what we are committed to with all our strength and energy.
